Ghanaian authorities have detained a former security official over allegations of embezzling 7-million-U.S. dollar state funds, Minister for Justice and Attorney General Dominic Ayine said Monday at a press briefing in Accra, the capital of Ghana.
According to the minister, Benjamin Adu-Boahen, former director-general of the National Signals Bureau, and his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng are in custody as investigations continue.
The bureau provides integrated, secure signal systems for national security and intelligence agencies.

Ayine said officials of the Economic and Organized Crime Office, who has mounted surveillance on Adu-Boahen for some time, picked him up at the Kotoka International Airport last Thursday upon his arrival from Britain, adding that his wife was arrested the following day for complicity in the alleged crimes.
State investigations revealed that Adu-Boahene had misappropriated the funds earmarked for the procurement of cyber security infrastructure valued at 7 million U.S. dollars which he diverted into his account for private use.
Several bank transactions by the former security official indicated that he had invested the state funds under his care in personal businesses, including companies and landed properties.
Ayine assured that the suspects would be arraigned before the court for prosecution once investigations were completed. Enditem
