The Parliament of Ghana late Friday passed the 2025 appropriation bill allowing the John Mahama-led government to spend a total of GH₵293 billion from the consolidated fund and other public funds for the year.

The appropriation bill sets the framework for government expenditure ensuring resources are allocated to key sectors of the economy.

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor confirmed the approval of the bill on the floor of the House during its sitting.

“Hon. Members, the Appropriation 2025 is now read the third time and accordingly passed,” stated Hon. Ahiafor.

The government’s budget statement and fiscal policy for 2025 outline significant allocations, including some GH₵68 billion earmarked for public sector wages and salaries.

Additionally, an amount of GH₵13 billion has been allocated for the settlement of arrears, thereby addressing outstanding financial obligations of the government of the previous year.

The approval and subsequent passage of the bill marks an important phase of securing the needed funding for the new government to fund its developmental programmes and other operations for the 2025 fiscal year.

It also provides the legal basis for government expenditure on infrastructure, social services, and economic programmes aimed at national growth and stability. Enditem
