President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, will pay a three-day State Visit to Ghana from next week, a statement from the Presidency announced Friday.
According to the statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President & Minister, Government Communications said President Pavel will be in the country from April 8 to 10, 2025.
“President John Dramani Mahama will host the President of the Czech Republic, His Excellency Petr Pavel, next week for a three-day State Visit to Ghana,” said the statement.
“The visit from April 8 to 10, 2025, will be the first by a Czech President since diplomatic relations were established between Ghana and then Czechoslovakia in October 1959. It will also be the first State Visit hosted by President Mahama since his return to the Presidency in January 2025,” added the statement.
The visiting president will hold bilateral talks with his Ghanaian counterpart, as well as partake in other important engagements in the country.
“While in Ghana, President Petr Pavel will hold bilateral talks with President Mahama, address a business forum, inaugurate a Czech-funded health facility and visit the Osu Castle and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park,” the statement further added.
President Mahama is also expected to host a State Dinner in honour of the visiting Head of State.
Ghana and the Czech Republic has long-standing diplomatic relations. When the West African country was under colonial rule, the then Czechoslovakia exported glass, matches, musical instruments, and textiles into the country.
Mutual ties between Ghana and Czechoslovakia started to develop actively when the former attained her independence in 1957 while diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1959.
Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah during a United Nations General Assembly meeting in September 1960 met Antonin Novotny, the then president of Czechoslovakia to discuss opportunities for mutual co-operation. Enditem
