Interior Minister reviews curfew hours on Binduri township, environs

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reviewed the curfew hours imposed on the Binduri township and its environs in the Upper East region, a statement from the ministry announced late Sunday.

According to the statement signed by the Interior Minister, the curfew hours have been reviewed from 6.00 pm to 6.00 am.

“The Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the Upper East Security Council and by Executive Instrument reviewed the curfew hours imposed on Binduri township and its environs in the Upper East region from 6.00 pm to 6.00 am with immediate effect,” said the statement.

The government urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and the people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.

Meanwhile, the government has banned all persons in the Binduri township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, men wearing smocks, and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.

Additionally, the movement of motorbikes, tricycles, ‘aboboyaa’, and the like are banned for both men and women.

The government also observed that any person or persons found riding motorbikes, tricycles, and ‘aboboyaa’ will be arrested and prosecuted.

Security in the Binduri area is quite volatile following the shooting of two policemen in plain clothes by suspected armed robbers at Poyamirea near Binduri.

A manhunt operation is currently underway to arrest the perpetrator, the police said in a statement through its Public Affairs Directorate. Enditem
