The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will resume mediation of the Bawku crisis from April 28, according to a statement released on Tuesday.
The statement, signed by the Chief of State at the Office of the Asantehene, requested all stakeholders to cooperate in finding a lasting solution to the crisis.
“His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, will resume mediation of the Bawku crisis as agreed with both parties from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace, Kumasi,” said the statement.
“Asantehene requests all stakeholders to cooperate for us to find a lasting peace in Bawku,” added the statement.
The Bawku crisis, rooted in longstanding ethnic and chieftaincy disputes, has seen periodic flare-ups resulting in casualties, displacement, and heightened security concerns.
On April 13, 2025, three people were killed, including two young police officers.
Meanwhile, security expert, Prof. Kwesi Aning, has described the ongoing conflict in Bawku as a matter of national concern, stating that the violence has transcended the boundaries of the troubled region and now threatens the security and stability of the entire country.
“We are looking at this conflict as a Bawku conflict. This is not a Bawku conflict; this is a Ghana conflict with regional implications or connections and networks,” he told local media recently. Enditem
