Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema on Wednesday expressed his condolences on social media following the tragic death of former national football team player Aaron Boupendza, who died after falling from a building.
Nguema said he was deeply saddened by the news of Boupendza’s passing. He praised the player for having brought honor to Gabonese football and extended his sympathies to his family.
On the same day, the Gabon national football team issued a statement, recalling Boupendza’s outstanding performance during the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, noting that he had left a lasting impression. The team also extended heartfelt condolences to his family.
Aaron Boupendza, a forward, had previously played for Gabon’s CF Mounana and France’s Bordeaux, before going on to join clubs in Turkey, Qatar, the United States, and Romania. He was the top scorer in the Turkish Süper Lig for the 2020-2021 season.
