NPP national executives must resign – Political Analyst

By Ghana Eye Report

Political Analyst Dr. Samuel Afriyie on Thursday asked all national executives of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to resign from office as the party embarks on a ‘thank you tour.’

According to him, the current national officers of the NPP have failed as they were not able to lead before the 2024 general election, leading to the party’s abysmal performance at the polls.

Dr. Afriyie, a senior lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), emphasized that the NPP national executives could not match their counterparts in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and also failed to put in place an appropriate strategy going into the 2024 general election.

“The national executive has failed the party, and they must resign. If you look at the party executives so far, they have not been able to lead. They must resign before they can embark on their ‘thank you tour,’ said the political analyst.

Enumerating reasons why the New Patriotic Party lost the 2024 general election, Dr. Afriyie observed that there was a disconnect between the party’s national executive and the campaign of the presidential candidate.

He urged the NPP to put in place an interim national executive after the resignation of the current leadership to oversee the internal elections within the party as part of their rebuilding efforts to capture political power in the next general election.

“There should be an interim national executive to organise elections. They will be trusted more than the current executive. If the current executive does it, it will not do the party any good,” added the senior lecturer.

The NPP, after their defeat in the 2024 general election, set up the Prof. Mike Ocquaye fact-finding committee to investigate the reasons behind the party’s poor performance in the last general election.

The committee presented its findings, which are yet to be made public, to the leadership of the party on Thursday. Enditem
