New IGP Yohunu will deliver – Security Analyst

Newly appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohunu will deliver, Security Analyst and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Africa Center for Security and Intelligence Studies (ACSIS), Paul Coonley Boateng on Monday.

According to him, Mr. Yohunu, who was deputy to the former IGP George Akuffo Dampare, is in a better position to right some of the wrongs of the past and cleanse the image of the Ghana Police Service.

This, he said, if carried out by the new Inspector-General of Police, will win back the trust of the public.

“I think Mr. Yohunu would definitely deliver on his new mandate judging by his rich past experience as a police officer who has held several positions,” said Boateng to the Ghana Eye Report.

He emphasized the IGP will deliver if he begins his administration by uniting the rank and file of the service, promoting those who were denied promotion under the outgone IGP, and working to withdraw all court cases against the police service.

“I am of the firm conviction that Mr. Yohunu will succeed in office if he does the following; unite members of the service, promote all personnel who were due for promotion but were denied under Dampare, as well as work behind the scenes to withdraw all court cases against the police service,” added the security analyst.

He called for support from within the service as well as the general pubic for the new Inspector-General of Police to ensure the negative perception towards the Ghana Police Service becomes a thing of the past.

President John Dramani Mahama last Thursday announced then Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu as the Inspector-General of Police, replacing George Akuffo Dampare, this is according to a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson to the president.

“President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, appointed Commissioner of Police Christian Tetteh Yohunu as the Inspector-General of Police,” said the statement.

“COP Yohunu brings forty years of experience to the position of IGP and is expected to oversee the modernization and transformation of the Ghana Police Service,” added the statement. Enditem
