President Mahama appoints new Service Chiefs for Ghana Armed Forces

President John Mahama has appointed five Service Chiefs for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), this is according to a statement released from the presidency on Monday.

The statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President & Minister for Government Communications, observed that the new Chiefs will replace those appointed by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic and Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, has made changes in the command of the Ghana Armed Forces,” said the statement

Consequently, the President has appointed the following as Acting Service Chiefs for the Ghana Armed Forces, pending consultation with the Council of State:

  1. Acting Chief of Defence Staff – Brigadier General William Agyapong.
  2. Acting Chief of Army Staff – Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu.
  3. Acting Chief of Naval Staff – Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing.
  4. Acting Chief of Air Staff – Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong.
  5. Acting Chief of Staff – Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan.

The appointment of the Service Chiefs, according to the statement takes effect from March 24, 2025.

President Mahama is also said to have met the outgoing Service Chiefs led by Chief of Defence Staff General Thomas Oppong-Peprah on Monday afternoon in which he expressed his gratitude to them for their dedicated service to the country.

The Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces also assured them of his willingness to rely on their varied experiences and depth of knowledge to reset the country. Enditem
