The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency and former Minister Adwoa Safo to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee for action against her, according to a statement released Thursday.
The statement signed by party General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong said the former MP’s comments within the media space has violated the party’s directive to members to desist from making utterances that create disaffection within the party.
“Following the directive issued to all members of the NPP to cease discussions on matters that create disaffection within the party in the media, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo’s comments in the media particularly on the Pulse Show on Joy News are clear contravention of the directive issued to all NPP members,” said the statement.
According to the party, the directive explicitly states that all party members were to cease discussing party issues that create unrest, negativism, and disaffection in the media and other related platforms and that going ahead to discuss party matters in the media is in contravention of Article 3(5) of the party’s constitution.
“Her actions are not only in disregard of this directive but also undermines the party’s efforts to rebuild and move forward. In breach of the provision of the party’s constitution and the directive issued earlier, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo is here by referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the party for further action,” it added.
The New Patriotic Party lost the 2024 presidential election to the National Democratic Congress by over 1.5 million votes. The party also lost its slim parliamentary majority to the NDC losing about 50 seats in the last election.
Since the defeat, various members of the party have begun expressing their views on the possible factors that may have resulted in their poor performance in the 2024 general election. Enditem
