Government imposes curfew on Binduri township and environs

The government has imposed a curfew on the Upper East Regional town of Binduri and its environs, according to a statement by the Interior Ministry on Monday.

The statement signed by the Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak said the curfew starts from 6.00 pm to 6.00 am, effective Monday.

The curfew is to contain the volatile security situation in Binduri and its neighbouring communities.

“The Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the Upper East and North East Regional Security Councils and by Executive Instrument, imposed a curfew on Binduri township and its environs in the Upper East Region from 6.00 pm to 6.00 am effective Monday, March 24, 2025,” said the statement.

The government urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.

Meanwhile, the government has also imposed a total ban on all persons in the Binduri township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons.

It also warned that men wearing smocks, riding motorbikes and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted. Enditem
