Legal representatives of Kwabena Adu-Boahene and Angela Adjei Boateng have strongly criticized Attorney General and Minister for Justice Dominic Akuritinga Ayine for allegedly using the media to pronounce their clients guilty before due legal process.
The AG, who confirmed the arrest of Adu-Boahene and his wife during a press conference in the Ghanaian capital of Accra on Monday indicated that the former government appointee is facing charges related to embezzlement, fraud, and illicit financial transactions.
In a statement released late Monday, the lawyers for the accused criticised the Attorney General for compromising judicial fairness by making public declarations about an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
They argued that such comments could unfairly influence public perception and undermine the rights of the accused.
“Investigations must be free from media trials and political maneuvering. A suspect’s right to a fair hearing must be respected at all times,” they stated.
“We are shocked that at the press conference, the Attorney General was even entertaining himself with issues of plea bargaining when the statements of the suspects were yet to be taken. It is even laughable that the age of Angela was lost on the Attorney General given the fact that EOCO has seized her British passport, which obviously had her biodata,” they further added.

The legal team also criticized the use of bail restrictions as a form of punishment, reiterating that Ghana’s justice system upholds the principle of presumption of innocence.
They urged the Attorney General’s office to present any alleged evidence in court rather than engaging in public commentary that could prejudice the case.
“I was very much surprised this morning when our clients were denied the right to counsel by EOCO with a reset Constitution that I could not have confidentiality of talking to my clients and giving them the appropriate legal advice prior to interrogation unless an official of EOCO listens to the lawyer-client solemn engagement. This reset rule of law defies my modest thirty-one (31) years of legal practice.”
“We are seeing through the dastardly agenda that let us in the court of public opinion besmear Kwabena and Angela with filth and guilt so that in the event of a court of law, equity and good conscience should find the case of the Attorney-General as propaganda and not evidence, we can feed frenzy to the citizenry that yes indeed, it is the NPP judiciary that is setting the innocent free”, the statement added.
Kwabena Adu-Boahene is a seasoned public servant who has worked at the National Signals Bureau (NSB) for the last two decades.
He rose through the ranks, holding key positions such as Head of Core Network, Planning and IT, Head of Network Operations, and later Deputy Director General, before being appointed Director General of the NSB.
Beyond public service, Adu-Boahene is an entrepreneur and the owner of Glofert, the largest fertilizer blending company in Ghana.
His business success and personal wealth were well-established before his appointment, with reports indicating that he owned luxury vehicles, including a Ferrari and a G-Wagon, long before taking office at the NSB. Enditem
