By Francis Kobena Tandoh

The relationship between China and its land borders is at an all-time best, according to the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H. E. Tong Defa, late Wednesday in the Ghanaian capital of Accra.

Speaking to journalists on recent developments in the world, including the Central Conference on Work Related to Chinese Neighboring Countries held in China this month and the tariff war, he emphasized the need for countries to work towards shared development and prosperity for all.

He observed that China has, over the years, strengthened relations with its regional neighbors based on the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness diplomacy and advocated for the building of a community with a shared future.

“China’s relations with neighboring countries are at their best in modern times, and also entering the critical phase of deep linkage between regional neighbors. China will hold high the banner of community with a shared future for mankind, act on common vision of a peaceful, safe, and secure, prosperous, beautiful, and ethical whole, foster an amicable, secure, and prosperous neighborhood,” said H.E. Tong.

The ambassador highlighted the importance that China attaches to the role good neighbourliness plays in its quest for development and shared prosperity.

“China is the country that has the most land neighbours in our world, so neighborhood is a vital foundation for achieving China’s development and prosperity, a key front for safeguarding China’s national security, a priority area in managing China’s overall diplomacy, and a crucial link in promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind,” he added.

H. E. Tong shared some key highlights from the Central Conference on Work Related to Chinese Neighboring Countries which was addressed by President Xi Jinping as touching on the crucial importance of relations with its neighboring countries, what China has achieved in recent decades and which experiences should be continued, China’s goal on relations with neighboring countries, and how those goals could be achieved.

He further emphasized that China will deepen development integration with its neighbors, build a high-level connectivity network, strengthen cooperation in industry and supply chain, maintain regional stability and tighter security and law enforcement cooperation, respond to various risks and challenges, expand people-to-people interactions and communication, and facilitate personal exchanges.

The Central Conference on Work Related to Neighbouring Countries was held from April 8 to 9 in Beijing this year.

President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, who addressed the conference, later visited three neighboring countries, including Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia, which H. E. Tong Defa described as “very successful.” Enditem
