Ghana beat Madagascar 3-0 away in FIFA World Cup qualifier

Two goals by Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey and one by Mohammed Kudus secured all three points away at the Stade Mimoun Al Arsi in Al Hoceima, Morocco late Monday to put the FIFA World Cup (WC) qualification dream of Ghana on course.

After thrashing Chad 5-0 in Accra on Friday to climb to the top of the Group I league log, the Black Stars were bent on winning against Madagascar in matchday six of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier to consolidate their first position.

Ghana commenced the game by mounting pressure on their opponents from the blast of the whistle and got the opener in the 11th minute through Thomas Partey.

Despite the incessant pressure piled on Madagascar, Ghana missed some descent chances hence ending the first half by 1-0.

Back from the halftime break, the Arsenal star scored his personal second in the 53rd minute while West Ham star, Mohammed Kudus put the icing on the cake in the 58th minute by finishing off a Jordan Ayew pass to put the scoreline at 3-0.

The four-time African champions kept pushing for more goals but were unable to find the net again till the end of the game.

With the win, Ghana occupies the first position in the league log with 15 points and 10 goals after six matches while Madagascar lies second, with 10 points and 3 goals.

Group I opponents; Mali and Comoros occupy the third and fourth positions with nine points each with the former having superior goals over the latter.

The Central African Republic (CAR) and Chad lies at the fifth and sixth positions respectively.

Ghana has made four FIFA World Cup appearances in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022, and seeking a fifth qualification. Enditem
