The Ghanaian government has indicated its intention to reduce the cost of application for the acquisition of an ordinary Ghana passport, Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced Wednesday.
According to the minister, the cost of application for a 32-page ordinary Ghana passport has been reduced from GH₵500 to GH₵350.
The reduction, representing a 25-percentage decrease, is aimed at making the Ghana passport acquisition more accessible while maintaining high security standards.
“We are pleased to announce a reduction in the cost of application for the 32-page ordinary passport from GH₵500 to GH₵350,” said Ablakwa on the floor of the country’s legislative body, Parliament.
The minister also announced that the government will be presenting the amendment of the fees and charges to ensure that the reduction is approved by Parliament.
In order to make the Ghana passport easy to acquire at much convenience, Mr. Ablakwa further indicated the Foreign Affairs ministry will introduce a door-to-door passport delivery service as part of its 24-hour service initiative. The Ghanaian government in April 2024 announced an increase in passport fees saying the decision was in line with the 2023 Fees and Charges Regulations, L.I. 2481
