Four-time African champions, Ghana are seeking to make history by qualifying for a fifth FIFA World Cup (WC) with a crucial tie against Madagascar in matchday six of the African qualifiers.

The Black Stars, who are already in Morocco for the tie are aiming to consolidate their position in the league of Group I.

Ghana recorded a resounding victory against Chad to climb to the top of the league log in matchday five of the World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.

All 23 players who traveled to Morocco are in good condition ahead of the crucial Group I game scheduled for March 24.

Ghana has made four World Cup appearances in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. The first two appearances held in Germany and South Africa respectively, were impressive, while in Brazil and Qatar, they were a disaster for the West African country.

The Group I fixture is scheduled for 19.00 hours G.M.T kick-off at the Stade Mimoun Al Arsi in Al Hoceima, Morocco.

The Africa Zone Confederation of African Football (CAF) qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup commenced on November 15, 2023, and will end in November 2025.

Nine African teams are guaranteed to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup scheduled to take place in Canada, USA, and Mexico.

The African qualifiers were played across two rounds. The first, which is ongoing, is being contested in the form of a group stage, with eight groups of six teams and one group of five, following Eritrea’s withdrawal.

Each team will play two matches: home and away against each of their opponents. The top finisher in each of the nine groups will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The second round will pit the four best runners-up in two one-off semi-finals, followed by a final. The winner of this second round will participate in the FIFA play-off tournament. Enditem
