The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has issued an April 30th, 2025 ultimatum to the government to address pertinent issues affecting their members to avert a possible industrial action; according to a statement released late Friday.

According to the statement signed by Thomas Tanko Musah, General Secretary for the GNAT, the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment (MoLJE), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have failed to obey directives by the National Labour Commission (NLC) regarding the scheme of service for teachers’ vis-a-vis the appointment of ‘outsiders’ to the GES.

The group also accused the Public Services Commission (PSC) of unilaterally implementing the Human Resources Management Information System (HRMIS), which has resulted in numerous challenges for their teachers including problems with salary reactivation, upgrading, and promotion of its members.

The GNAT observed that the development within the pre-tertiary education sector has led to much anger among members and urges the government to address the issues as a matter of urgency to promote industrial harmony.

“It must be placed on record that these issues have not only created widespread disaffection, anger, worries, and disillusionment among the rank and file of our members but could affect the industrial peace on our front,” said the statement.

“In the light of the above, the Ghana National Association of Teachers hereby gives the MoE, MoLJE, FWSC, and GES up to Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, to address all the problems they have inflicted on teachers,” it added. Enditem
