Asante Kotoko interim coach Karim Zito began his tenure with a crucial 1-0 victory over Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.
Zito, who took over earlier this week after a difficult run of form under Prosper Ogum, delivered on his promise to revive the team, securing a much-needed win that reduces the gap at the top to six points. The victory provides a timely boost ahead of next weekend’s high-profile clash against Hearts of Oak in Accra.
Kwame Opoku scored the decisive goal, firing a low effort into the net in the 25th minute. Aduana had a golden opportunity to equalise, but Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara produced a brilliant save to deny them from the penalty spot in the 38th minute.
Kotoko controlled possession for large periods but managed fewer attempts on goal compared to Aduana. The visitors registered seven shots, while Kotoko had five, with their only effort on target yielding the winner.
Aduana FC will aim to bounce back when they host Berekum Chelsea in a local derby, while Kotoko prepare for a crucial encounter against Hearts of Oak, a fixture that could shape the final stages of the title race. Enditem
