Ranking Member on the Defence & Interior Committee of the Parliament of Ghana, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour is requesting a joint briefing by the various security agencies on crucial security matters, this is according to a letter released here Wednesday.
The security agencies include National Security, the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
The letter, addressed to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defence & Interior, Rev. Fordjour, who is the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South want the legislative body to invite various security agencies to provide an update on important security matters affecting the state.
“I write to request for the committee to invite the above-stated security agencies under the oversight of the Committee on Defence and Interior to attend upon the Committee on Monday April 7, 2025 at 11.00 hours in the Committee Room of Parliament,” said the letter.
“The Purpose of this proposed meeting is to afford the agencies the opportunity to brief the committee and provide updates on investigations being conducted into high-profile reported incidents of serious and urgent public interest,” it added.
According to the Assin South MP, the security agencies are expected to provide updates on the operation conducted by National Security in Sapeiman on February 9, 2025, which uncovered twelve 20-foot containers stashed with gold bars and currencies, the high-profile busts of cocaine of 350 million U. S. dollars which took place last month.
The last of the updates involves the two suspicious flights which landed at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) from Gran Canaria on March 20 and March 12 respectively and the cargo they carried into and out of the country.
The Ranking Member observed that the Committee would also volunteer information that would be useful for the security agencies to conduct their investigations.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour on Tuesday at a press conference demanded accountability regarding two suspicious flights that landed at the KIA last month, allegedly carrying cargo suspected to be cocaine and large sums of cash.
President John Dramani Mahama later in the day directed the security agencies to collaborate with the Assin South legislator to unearth allegations of drug trafficking and money laundering.
“My attention has been drawn to allegations made at a press conference by an honourable member of parliament, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, regarding two suspicious flights arriving at the Kotoka International Airport suspected to be involved in drug trafficking and money laundering,” said the President. Enditem
