President John Dramani Mahama on Monday called on Ghanaians to extend kindness and support to the vulnerable in society.
Addressing hundreds of Muslim faithfuls at the Independence Square in the Ghanaian capital of Accra to commemorate the end of Ramadan, the President stressed the need for compassion and unity, particularly towards the less fortunate.
He emphasized that the Eid-Ul-Fitr celebration is not only a time of joy and thanksgiving but also an opportunity to demonstrate generosity.
President urged Muslims and all Ghanaians to remember those struggling with poverty, illness, and other hardships, encouraging them to share their blessings with those in need.
“As we mark the end of Ramadan, let us not forget the vulnerable in our communities. This is a time for reflection, kindness, and support. We must look out for those who are struggling and extend a helping hand,” said President Mahama.
He called on community and religious leaders to lead by example by fostering a culture of care and social responsibility.
“The true essence of this celebration lies in our ability to uplift one another. Let us use this occasion to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and ensure that no one is left behind,” he added.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), communal prayer (salah), reflection, and community.
It is also the month in which the Holy Quran is believed to have been revealed to the Islamic Prophet Muhammad.
The annual observance of Ramadan is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam and lasts twenty-nine to thirty days, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next. Enditem
