Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association in the country say attempts at linking transport fare increment to prices of spare parts are unjustified, the association said in a statement over the weekend.

A statement signed by Takyi Addo, Director of Communications for the association observed that claims by the Alliance of Drivers alleging that rising spare parts prices is a contributing factor to their announced 20 percent increase in lorry fares is inaccurate and should be disregarded by the public.
According to him, there have not been changes on import duties or market conditions that could justify the assertion that spare parts costs are driving transportation fare increment.

“Stock levels are stable, and the prices of essential vehicles components including engine oil and filters have remained unchanged. Therefore, any attempt to attribute fare increases to rising spare parts costs is unwarranted,” said the statement.
The Spare Parts Dealers urged driver union to ensure adjustments transport fares are based on factual economic indicators and not on unfounded allegations.
The Alliance of Drivers recently announced a 20 percent upward adjustment in transport fares taking effect from Monday, March 17, 2025.
The group indicated the fare increment was as a result in the rising cost of spare parts and other items in their operations. Enditem
